The new Donald Bren Hall at UC Irvine is home to wide-ranging information and computer sciences research and learning.

 

Donald Bren's major contributions to leading research institutions are creating new opportunities for scientists, medical researchers and scholars. These range from finding cures for human diseases and improving humans' overall quality of life, to ushering in advances in computer science that improve the way individuals and entire corporations operate, to environmental problem-solving through an unusual interdisciplinary approach.

  • At the Burnham Institute for Medical Research in La Jolla, Calif., major financial contributions from Mr. Bren are helping support the institute's pioneering research in the areas of cancer, neurosciences and aging, and infectious and inflammatory diseases.

  • At the Donald Bren School of Environmental Science and Management at UC Santa Barbara, Mr. Bren's philanthropy is ushering in groundbreaking research that benefits from an interdisciplinary approach integrating science, management, law, economics and policy.

  • At the Donald Bren School of Information and Computer Sciences at UC Irvine, Mr. Bren's major gifts to the school are charting new research paths for students and faculty; the school—the only one of its kind in the entire University of California system—conducts a breathtaking range of research, from computer systems built on chips smaller than a human fingernail, to using computer science to analyze and improve biological research.
